Rules and Eligibility

The 2020 EAA Beethoven Piano Competition will take place on May 2nd and 3rd, 2020, and is open to young pianists, ages 7 - 18, who are residents of the United States and its territories. There are three categories: Young (ages 7-10), Emerging (ages 11-14) and Accomplished Pianists (ages 15-18). Eligibility is determined by competitors’ age on the day the Competition commences.

Applications must be submitted online and received by the Competition Office no later than April 1st, 2020. A complete application must include a completed registration form, links to uploaded, unedited video recordings for preliminary screening, and a non-refundable $100 registration fee, payable by check or by credit card. The Competition Office must also receive an HD profile photo and government-issued proof of identity at office@europeanarts.org Late applications are accepted until April 15th, 2020. A late application fee of $50 must be included.

Preliminary screening recordings must be unedited. The contestant’s face and hands must be seen at all times. Please refer to the Preliminary Round section for detailed recording guidelines.

All preliminary and final round jury decisions are final. Winners of all three categories will be announced during the closing ceremony, which shall take place on May 3rd at The European Academy of Arts Theater. Contestants must participate in the closing ceremony in order to claim their award and certificate of participation. Winners of all three categories shall be asked to perform a musical selection during the closing ceremony.
